President and Chief Executive Officer

Byron Selman joined Advanced Instruments in May 2017 as President and CEO. With a mix of technical and commercial expertise, Byron has successfully built high powered teams and led businesses through market expansions and strategic turnarounds particularly within the hospital, blood center, and biotech segments. Prior to Advanced Instruments, Byron worked at Haemonetics Corporation, where he served most recently as President of Global Markets. Additionally, his career at Pall Corporation spanned over 20 years across various executive level and general management positions including President, Medical Division. Byron received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and his M.B.A. from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University.

Sue Hanlon joined Advanced Instruments in July of 2017 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with over 30 years of professional experience. Prior to Advanced Instruments, Sue worked for Haemonetics Corporation, where she served as Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Controller, leading all aspects of finance (controllership, planning & analysis, taxes, treasury) for a $900M global medical device manufacturer. Sue also held the position of Partner at Arthur Andersen LLP, directing all aspects of audit engagements for companies across the manufacturing, technology and financial services sectors. Sue received her BBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Bob Miller joined Advanced Instruments in April of 2017 as Vice-President, Operations. Bob brings over 22 years of expertise within medical device operations, providing strategic leadership of a cross-functional staff and development of key alliances to drive top-line and bottom-line financial performance. Previously he worked at Tegra Medical for 9 years, in multiple executive roles across Operations and the Genesis Tech Center. Bob also worked in life science operations at Smith Medical for 10 years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management and Information Systems (OMIS) from University of Massachusetts.

Lisa Fahey joined Advanced Instruments in May 2017 as the Director of Marketing. With nearly 20 years of marketing experience within the medical device industry, Lisa brings leadership to both customer focused product development and demonstrated commercial excellence. Previously she worked at Haemonetics Corporation for 10 years, where she worked in a variety of marketing leadership roles within the hospital and blood center markets. Lisa also worked at a communications agency developing integrated marketing campaigns for business-to-business clients. She earned her B.S. from Skidmore College in Management & Business and an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts.

Corey Morcombe joined Advanced Instruments in 2020 as Vice-President of Sales, Americas. With over 16 years of experience in scientific instrumentation, Corey has a proven track record of building and leading high performing sales teams in clinical, biopharma, and food and beverage markets. Throughout his career he has introduced creative and effective sales methodologies with a focus on funnel generation, new product introductions, expanding scientific value propositions, and growing new markets. Previously, he served as the Eastern Regional Sales Director, then Americas Sale Director at PerkinElmer. Corey also spent 12 years at Agilent where he held a variety of roles ranging from Research Product Sales Manager to Global Commercialization Manager. He earned his MBA from Santa Clara University and his PhD from Yale University.

Gautier Barry joined Advanced Instruments in April 2022 as the Senior Business Director in charge of Europe, Middle East and Africa. With 18 years of experience in fast-growing listed high-tech companies - including 15 years in the medical device industry - and 3 years as an entrepreneur, Gautier brings to the company a solid experience of driving growth and building high performing direct and indirect sales & marketing teams in both national and international environments. Prior to joining Advanced Instruments Gautier was the co-owner and General Manager of a 25-people company and spent 13 years at Integra Lifesciences, where he held a variety of sales, marketing and leadership roles, including a Director of Sales & Marketing EMEA position where he supervised direct teams in 6 European countries and a network of distributors in over 30 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Gautier earned a Master in Management from Grenoble Graduate School of Business.

Fan Yang joined Advanced Instruments in October of 2020 as Business Development Director of Asia Pacific. With more than 18 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry, specifically within bioprocessing and analytical technology, Fan has demonstrated successes within business analysis, strategy development, regulatory/application promotion, and channel management. Previously, he served as Director of Bioprocessing Modality at Cytiva. Fan has also worked at Merck Millipore, where he held a variety of commercial roles for different analytical products in pharmaceutical, academia, food & beverage, and applied market. He earned his B.S. in Biochemical Engineering from East China University of Science & Technology and an MBA from KEDGE business school.

Neil Pomeroy joined the Advanced Instruments team in November 2021 as Vice President, Global R&D. Neil came to us with over 20 years of experience in R&D and new product delivery, having held leadership roles spanning the automotive, medical device, life sciences, healthcare and defence sectors. Previously, Neil worked as R&D Director at Solentim where he was instrumental in building the product portfolio’s gold-standard imaging technology and expanded the group’s Artificial Intelligence and Software capabilities. Neil earned is Bachelor’s in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea.

Matt Hoyer joined Advanced Instruments in March 2022. He serves as the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Matt has over 23 years legal experience, beginning in the U.S. Air Force as a Judge Advocate, then as law firm attorney and more recently as an in-house counsel for aerospace, semiconductor and life science instrumentation companies. Matt brings a strong generalist background and business focus and experience to the legal function to help the company grow profitably while leading key Governance, Risk and Compliance concerns and initiatives. He earned a B.A. from the University of Rochester, a J.D. from Emory University School of Law and an MBA from Boston University.

Paul Cahill joined Advanced Instruments in March of 2022 as Vice-President, Global Human Resources. With nearly 30 years of experience in leading high performing global HR teams, Paul brings the right mix of expertise to support the organization’s accelerated growth initiatives including international expansion, integration of key acquisitions, talent acquisition, and will continue to build a world class organization using platforms designed to support the employee base. Previously, Paul was the head of HR at Adela Company, and prior to that worked for a number of years at Rockport Group, and Clarks Americas where he served in a number of progressively expanding HR roles. He earned his undergraduate degree from University of Massachusetts.

Julie MacKenzie joined Advanced Instruments in July 2008. She serves as Director, Clinical & Artel Product Portfolios. Julie brings 15 years of experience within the medical device industry, providing product management and technical expertise to drive creative growth strategies and build strong customer relationships. Julie started her career at Advanced Instruments as a Product Development Scientist and has held various positions throughout the company’s transformation from family ownership to being part of Patricia Industries. Julie received her B.A. in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology from Connecticut College and her M.B.A. from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.
