Spiral Biotech

Spiral Biotech, Inc. (SBI), an Advanced Instruments Company, produces automated microbiology systems for research, food, dairy, and environmental sciences laboratories.

Spiral Biotech first commercialized the technique of Spiral Plating in 1976. Since that time, the company has focused on automating the pre-analytical and analytical steps involved with traditional microbial enumeration. SBI products include colony counters, plating systems, anaerobic workstations, susceptibility test software, air samplers, and sample prep tools.

Spiral Biotech's newest colony counting system is the QCount®, with ColorCount™ color recognition software. The QCount is designed to work with the new chromogenic agars becoming popular for high-productivity colony counting that involves multiple strains of bacteria.

As of January 1, 2010, Spiral Biotech was officially merged into Advanced Instruments and is no longer operating as a separate entity.
